Carolyn and I were married 15 years ago, in May 1992. Wow. I’m more in love with her today than ever. I truly married and still enjoy the companionship of my best friend. Our home is one of playfulness, laughter and endless surprise. We’re deeply imperfect, blessed people.

Apple store coming to Little Rock?

Posted By Jeff on September 15th, 2007

There’s a rumor that Little Rock may be getting an Apple store! Booha!

The website ifoapplestore.com says that it will be located in the new open-air Promenade Mall on Chenal which is scheduled to open in spring 2008.

On this day...

Sweet Apples! I had heard one would be coming. Great news to here it confirmed. Especially now that Compusa is closing up.

Wuh-at? I hadn’t heard about CompUSA closing! What’s the deal there?

Todd Mason

Yup. Closing down all the stores after the first of the year.

Was one of the few places I didn’t mind shopping. :~) And as far as I know the only place in Little Rock to mess around with Apple products outside of the ubiquitous Ipod. So the Apple store coming to town is most welcome!

Apple says they ARE opening a store at the new Promenade at Chenal this spring. That’s almost as good as The Container Store opening in Midtowne Center in March.

I’m really bummed that CompUSA is closing.

Jeff

Sunfell,
While I am totally dismayed that you compared an Apple Store to a Container Store, it’s great news that it’s been confirmed!!! ;)

Spring has come and gone and no Apple Store at the Promenade at Chenal. Anyone have an update on the opening?

Josh

Rumor has it they have pulled out because of the state of the national economy. Little Rock might have to wait out the recession before we will get our long awaited retailers like Apple.

Jeff

@Josh: Noooooooo! Say it ain’t so.

Spring 2009, and still no Apple Store. I moved here from the New Orleans area (due to Katrina and no house to go back to) and am just flabberghasted that Louisiana and Mississippi now have three stores between them, and Arkansas still doesn’t have one. I’m happy to see my old hometown (Metairie) have one, and enjoyed a recent visit to the Baton Rouge one, but c’mon, the Little Rock store was slated to open first and it’s still not open. If there’s a problem with the development, Apple should scope other sites — there’s a nice development up on Shackleford near the I-30; also (and I can’t remember the shopping center’s name) there’s one on Highway 10 (it’s the one Cheeburger Cheeburger is in). Those are both at the scale of what Apple typically opens in.

Well – it is now Spring of 2009, and still no Apple Store. I was a bit disappointed with the closing of CompUSA, until I thought about a new Apple Store opening just a few miles further up the road.

But alas- there are no signs of an Apple Store at the Promenade or any other of the new centers in Little Rock.

Can’t help but think the plans got shut down when the economic situation turned sour.

Just read a news story @ ifoapplestore.com that Apple is opening a store in Perth, Australia, one of the remotest cities in the world. May not be true, what with its 1.6 (that’s one-point-six nothing) residents. I have more than that in my house.

I sure as hell wish Apple’d get with it and get one open here in Little Rock. If Chenal isn’t working out, move the planned location. Seems like the little shopping center that The Container Store is in would be a nice fit, or that new one over at Shackleford & the Interstate. Or even the one I mentioned before; on Cantrell (Hwy 10) by that Cheeburger Cheeburger; that’s pretty high end.

What I’m saying is that it’s time for a change of plans, Apple. Chenal isn’t going to work out, apparently; change the game and open already.
