Thanks for the link, Kevin. I added it to the entry as well. By the way, why do they get to call it the “Greenville Bridge?” Why not the “Lake Village Bridge” or the “Big Honkin’ Cable Bridge?”

I’m not economist, but I’ve often wondered why Lake Village hasn’t blossemed like the other lakeside towns in Arkansas. It seems like they have so much potential to be the “it” spot in SE Arkansas.

Great post! I lived a year one winter in Arkansas City. Great experience. There is a alot of history in this little town. Rising Tide is a great book too. We would be living in a different world if the flood had not change the river and changed history. Most people are not aware of the enormity of how devastating the flood really was.

The Delta! Arkansas City! Being a Fletcher, I actually spent most of my life there. My grandmother’s house was right by the levee. I loved listening to stories of her telling about the flood. I don’t know where they are know, but she had pictures that showed only the roof of her two story house. It was truly amazing.
