Patricia,
For starters, I'd look at Hebrews 10:24. It's pretty explicit there that believers should gather together regularly. We also know it was Jesus' habit to go to the synagogue on the Sabbath. That practice later changed for Christians to gather on Sunday for worship.

If Christ lives in you, then He will motivate you internally to be with those whom He loved and gave His life for. You shouldn't be looking for a command. That shows a lack of love. You should be looking for a sincere desire to worship Christ and learn more about Him as well as serve Him and His world with other Christians.

Whereever you've pointed ppl, you've pointed them to learn. That's all that matters right? It's never commanded in the bible to go to church. Only to be the church.

You're welcome, Rosjuane. Thanks for your honesty and inquiry.

After sleeping on this, I would add one other thing...

The New Testament never explicitly commands us to not cheat on our taxes, kick the dog, or to fast. However, the implied principles behind the scripture make it evident how we are the behave in these areas.

Where there no explicit instructions, it's vital for us as God's people to saturate ourselves with God's Word so that we can understand His principles for life, conduct, and behavior.

I think becoming a part of an identified group of believers is most definitely one of those "no-duh" principles from the NT.

Jeff first let me say thank you. This is exactly what I was looking for.
This is what I got out of it and everything else so feel free (to anyone) to correct me if I'm wrong or you disagree. Let me also say that I'm not trying to stir the pot, but maybe to help others see what some others couldn't say.
I got from all the scriptures that it is not "required" for you to be in church, but that it is "promoted". This is what I've always understood to be. That church is for fellowship, worship, and guidance. Kinda like AA to help others stay on the right path. Also that it is for you to and others to join together and go out a witness to other people.
I do understand what Jeff is saying about that its not about us it's to worship him and I think that this idea has gotten lost along the way with so many people.
You should join together worship him, help others to stay on the right path, and try to involve others. But it is not required for you to "warm the seat" to be a christian. I do beleive that you should attend church because it's always easier to do right when you have a support group. I think that maybe people get touchy when they are told that they must attend in order to be christians. That can be added to K. T.'s list of "EXCUSES" as to why people don't attend church. They feel pushed into going and judged because they aren't there. I think that you should tell people about god and all his glory, but some (no one in particular) tend to get (for lack of better terms) "holier than thou" when the religion subject comes up. This is why I wanted the scriptures. I was just discussing with someone about the fact that so many times people take the easy road and revert to what someone else's opinion. I for one want to see the scripture (because thats his word and it's the only one that counts) and then to take that as how I understood it. This may not be how someone else takes it but that's okay too. Somewhere in all this we are all bound to have misunderstood something.
I like what I've heard and seen about Journey and that they promote you to read and take it for what you believe to be the truth. I can appreciate that. It just seems like so many have taken something so pure and turned it into a social gathering.
But at the same time all of this is just as I said EXCUSES because if and when we are ready to truely accept him and to live our live right by him we can find the kind of fellowship in a church that we need. For every bad seed there is a good one you just have to be willing to look for it.
