I really have no idea what was going on, other than when SimpleLife was deactivated, my InSeries table of contents on those posts became visible again. The Series pulldown didn't show any of my existing series when SimpleLife was activated, and I wouldn't allow me to create a new series.</description>

  I took a peek at SimpleLife, and don't see anything that would explicitly cause In Series to croak. I installed and enabled (but did not otherwise use) the plugin, and In Series continued to work as expected. If you could provide any more information about the problem you encountered, please let me know -- I do like to try and ensure that In Series gets along nicely with as many other plugins as possible. :)
