Brother Jeff, you're speakin' my language!

After trying to break into print for a few months, I've realized that our local papers are just not doing well. Advertisers would rather go with online sites that receive more hits, and who can blame them? I wonder if, in the next 10-20 years, printed papers will be a business that is quickly being pushed out.

I have definitely heard much about the editing of comments on news sites. I think this is understandable for some content *foul language*, but in general, this is America and censorship sucks! (want to edit 'sucks' out?) ;) Some people have told me that articles they have written and comments they have left, were not offensive, but simply did not necessarily go with the ideas of others running the show. To correct that 'problem,' they were chopped up and put back together into a more "acceptable" format.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I submit an article somewhere, and I own the rights to it, do I not have to be contacted for permission for it to be edited it in a way that changes the meaning? I mean, it's my name at the end of that paragraph... it should state exactly what I stated originally. I guess what I'm asking is, do news sites not have to follow those guidelines?

In closing, I love my online news sites!! It's super convenient and you just cannot beat their fast reporting.

Hey, I know a GREAT freelance writer that is benefitting greatly from stuff just like this. *tee hee
