The Salvation Army

I’m a complete idiot.

Yes, I knew that William Booth founded the Salvation Army upon the tenets and principles of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, but I had ignorantly assumed (a prominent attitude in the States, I’m afraid) that it had been neutered of much of its evangelistic and Christian base.

Enter a link from headphonaut’s nanolog to the Salvation Army. After a few minutes of wandering through it, I was humbled and grateful for their work. They’re not just bell ringers. Like I said, I’m an idiot.

On this day...

  • Thomas… you’re so welcome. I deeply apologize for my ignorance! (a real good reason why I’m working hard on ignorantprotestant.com)

I hope more folks discover the genuine ministry that goes on through the Army, apart from bell-ringing.

  • Thanks for this…

Sometimes I believe the Army has become the Methodist church that the Army came out of… People are obsessed with activity and busy-ness because they equate it with holiness…like the church at Ephesus in Revelation 2 – they have lost their sight of their first love…

But other times I am amazed at the simple love of people living out Booth’s motto :: “Heart to God, Hand to Man”

When you hear stories like my mate Charlie from Greenock who lost everyone he loved due to alcohol and how his life has been transformed by the Jesus introduce to him by an Army officer who gave him a chance when no one else would. That’s what we are all about!

The Army is like EVERY other church – it has its genuine folk and its fakes…

I am working within the Army bringing change from the grassroots… making change happen from within.

    Peace,

    Thomas
