Quite scary and a sad testimony to American Christianity when Joel Osteen places first in a “most influential Christian” list.

Due to the paradox of Christianity - the last being first - not many wise, not may strong etc.. it is quite likely that the most authentic, and possibly therefore the most truly influential Christians are largely unknown. In history I think of the people represented by Menno Simons - many tortured or killed by the two “main-stream Christian” churches of the day (early 1500’s) - but they embraced all of the values of Christ - and these values were expressed much like Ghandi - their core value was servanthood - they died in a posture of peaceful, non-resistance.

Dave… so true! I doubt that we’ll even recognize the most “influential” believers in heaven!

This is the first time I have seen this list. It’s very sad that a “pastor” (loose term) that doesn’t want to use the word sin or sinners in his messages is considered the most influential “Christian”. I think if someone is actually preaching from the Bible it would have to come up!
I only recognized a handful of the people on the list, but I’m not really up to speed with ‘famous’ Christians. I feel that the most influential Christians probably don’t even know the impact that they have nor do they want to be on some “top 50″ list getting some publicity. I am thankful that we have wonderful writers and pastors that can influence so many people with their teaching of repentance and salvation. But the sad truth is that many Americans only want to hear the messages that tickle their ears and men like Joel Osteen do just that. The Bible teaches that only a few will find the path to eternal life, so I guess I shouldn’t be shocked that “cotton candy” man is at the top

linda’s last blog post..I bet this lady is from Arkansas!
