Sunday night was the last night of freedom for the kids before school started. We had a dual-purpose family meeting in the living room. One of the purposes was to spend time in prayer with the kids, commissioning them, so to speak, to be representatives of their Lord, our church and our family at school [...]
What kind of parenting do you practice?
Posted By Jeff on May 6th, 2007
George Barna has a book out called Revolutionary Parenting. It looks to be a powerful study and even more alarming call for transformation in Christians’ parenting styles. In it, he identifies three parenting styles:
- Parenting by default, which he says is “the path of least resistance”
- Parenting by trial and error
- Revolutionary parenting, which he says is simply taking the scriptures at face value where they address parenting and seeking to apply them diligently to life and family practices
For the first three commenters, I’ll buy and have the book shipped to you. But here’s the caveat..
- You have to write a blog review of the book on your own blog (If you have no blog, your comment won’t count.)
- Implement one principle learned in the book in your parenting style (telling us in your blog entry what you’re going to do)
- Link back to this post in your blog entry
- And pass the book on to a friend, listing its destination in your blog entry.
Happy commenting… and parenting.

This is what happens to people who procrastinate and wait too long to start a blog. Oh, well. I have a disorder that isn’t talked about a lot (i.e. no telethon or designated ribbon color). If someone recommends a book, I am compelled to buy and read said book, especially if it sounds interesting, which this book does. Just in case any of your other comment readers have the same disorder I do, let me return the favor and compel others to get yet another book. I highly recommend FAMILIES WHERE GRACE IS IN PLACE (I yell that because I don’t know how to underline in comments..sorry) by Jeff VanVonderen. For any Intervention watchers, yes, it’s that Jeff VanVonderen. It’s about “grace-full parenting” and it made me think about how to parent more deliberately. It explained some passages of scripture that are commonly used in marriage/parenting sermons, but that I don’t think I fully understood.

Michael and I are not on the same page, so to speak, when it comes to discipline, at lot of the time. WE NEED A GUIDEBOOK, haha!
They really should send a manual home with ya from the hospital, don’t you think?

Thanks, but the rules clearly state that you must have a blog to win. I don’t have a blog yet. Good intentions don’t count. It just wouldn’t be fair. I have to disqualify myself. I was just saying that I’m going to get and read the book anyway.
