Beautifully stated, Jeff. I vividly recall hating church as I reached my teen years and well into them. What was in it for me? We had an amazing "youth' service that I loved going to.. but church? That's for old folks... it never seemed to be directed to me, unless it was the "don't have sex until you're married!!!" scream-a-thon. (and, it's obvious how well that worked on me... another comment.. another day! lol)

I totally agree that our culture has completely screwed up what it means to be an adult, and I don't have a clue myself what 'age' is considered adulthood in America today. Many say that 23 year olds are MUCH too young to be married, that 16 year olds are too irrational to make any sound decisions, especially in regards to faith and missions, and supposedly by 30 you should have your life together. Then we have 30yr olds still acting just like those insane 16 yr olds... my head is spinning!

Longest comment ever concluded by this: we simply do not place enough personal responcibility on both the church as a unit and its members, of all ages, as individuals. "The church" is too quick to NOT judge its members, if you ask me. We are so fearful to point out obvious disobedience to God's word that we simply let our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ slip through the cracks. We care more for our comfort in not confronting them than for their spiritual growth. When it comes to our youth.. it's even worse. That's their parent's job! That's the teacher's job! That's the Children Director's job! (ack! Please.. I don't need the pressure!) We want it to be "feel good" ministry and... that's great! But, it can't all be golden roads and harp playing on clouds. Our job on earth is to spread God's word and bring glory to him. Who better to do that than children and teens?! Who could possibly reach more people than that age group..with their entire world setting happening in the most socially ripe places like school and friend's houses? It's amazing how God uses children and teens... he ALWAYS has! (David, Samuel, Josiah, JESUS!! Shall I continue?) God obviously thought, in many cases, that youth were better at hearing him than adults... it's time we realize that too! (Thank you and goodnight!)
